Email Newsletters

Targeted email marketing campaigns are:

  • cost effective
  • powerful

A professional looking email is essential to:

  • grab attention
  • hold interest
  • maximise response
  • maintain your brand

Here's a case study of an existing client - Sarah Hodgkins at Charlotte Designs, she's an interior designer and she specialises in designing children's rooms.

Below is how Sarah's blank template looks. When she logs into my website, Sarah is able to see the template design, edit the text and add new pics and news items quickly and simply.

Here's a screen shot of her template after Sarah has added and formatted her text and images.

Draft email

Sarah exported her contacts lists from Excel and imported them into the software into separate subscriber groups. She had to confirm that she had collated the contact names/emails from reputable sources (this is a one-off pre-requisite of all HTML emails), once her contact lists were certified, she was able to choose exactly who she sent her email to.

One of the big benefits of using my website to create your emails, is that it shows you detailed reports on things such as:

  • how many people opened, clicked or forwarded your email (click for more info on open rates)
  • which links were popular, and who clicked on them
  • when did subscribers open the email
  • what did they read
  • which email software they use
  • who didn't receive the email and why (click for more info on bounce rates)
  • who unsubscribed (the software handles the subscription lists you provide, and tackles unsubscribes automatically).

... this all helps you to refine the content of your emails to maximise the click-through rate and therefore increase sales!

Below is a screen-shot of Sarah's initial report page. Sarah can drill down into the report to find the reader-information listed above. She can already see from the results that several recipients have clicked on the 'muralbynumbers' link several times, so using the results of the data, Sarah knows that contacting them directly - specifically about her DIY murals - could result in new sales!

Costs for sending emails

The cost for sending out html emails is payable directly through the website (Via Visa or Mastercard) It costs 2 pence per recipient plus a per-campaign delivery fee of £7.50
  • Eg: if you send an email out to 1000 people, the cost will be £27.50 (1000x 2p + £7.50) + VAT.

If you regularly send email campaigns, you can reduce the costs above by...

  • Choosing to pay a fixed monthly fee (great value if you send out more than 1 email newsletter a month to any number of people).
  • Buy credits in bulk (great value if you send your emails to a large number of people, say, 5000 or more recipients per email newsletter).
You can also (if you wish) test your emails for design and spam testing via the software for £9 - these show you a preview of your emails in over 15 popular email clients (like outlook, hotmail, apple mail, blackberry etc) so you can check how it looks before emailing it out for real (both with the images hidden and previewed). It also passes your email through spam filters and firewalls to check your text for possible spam issues.

Designing the template

Designing and building the creative template is much like creating a webpage, so it will probably take between 4.5 and 5.5 hours to design, build and get it up and running in the email software. As I charge an hourly rate of £55+VAT, this will work out between £247.50 - £302.50+VAT. This is a one-off fee, as you can re-use the design template for as many email newsletters as you want!

Before designing the template, I would need to know roughly what you want to say in your newsletter emails - With Sarah's email, she asked for 3 main news items, with largish images, and 2 smaller 'recent projects' boxes further down the page. She can add more than 3 main or 2 sub items if she wants, as there are no limits to how many stories you add.

Get in contact with me if you would like to discuss your email marketing campaigns.

Please add your name to my email newsletter subscription list, I won't bombard you with stuff... I'll only send out emails if I've got some news to tell you!
